The art of always moving forward. | Monday Motivation
I believe everyone has an innate desire to live a significant life--a life of purpose and meaning. I've always wanted to live a purposeful life, where I didn't do anything simply because my peers did or others believed I should. I've made it a habit to ask myself often why I am doing things and what my intentions are behind my actions. I don't want to simply make it through life, I want to live a life of meaning.
A life of meaning is going to look different for everyone, and you cannot judge another's life based on your own experiences and circumstances. This is something I often have to remind myself of--that everyone is on their own path and how they get there is going to look different from anyone else. There is one thing though that rings true for every individual looking to live a meaningful life--you must consistently push yourself forward.
Complacency is the enemy of progress, and to live a purposeful life you must push yourself forward, be that in your career, education, mental health, physical health, spiritual health, or relationships.
You must be looking for ways to improve, grow, and mature. Don't let yourself fall into the lie that you've done enough, that you've reached the point of maximum potential. No matter where you are there are areas of your life where you can push for improvement.
To give a personal example, I am thinking a lot about where I want to go in my life. Big picture, what does it look like? I've recently come to the realization that I don't have to have it all figured out right now. I'm only 23, and despite the pressures to be living my dream career now, I don't want to box myself into anything and limit myself from taking any doors that may open up. I most likely have many many many years ahead to build my career, discover my calling, and do good work in this world. So right now I am working on letting myself be okay with waiting and not having complete control. I don't have to have it all figured out right now, and I can do good work wherever I am currently. Big picture, I desire to live a life of meaning and service, and I am looking for ways to open up my life to any possibilities that may come my way.
All of that not to say I'm not actively searching for opportunities. I am consistently researching, praying, and searching for different avenues I can take to propel myself down the right path.
I want you to keep an open mind, and continually think about how you can improve in life. Where can you simplify, where can you learn more, where can you grow and invest more? If you keep asking yourself those questions and actively pursue answers to them and implement them into your life, you will never find yourself living a complacent life. You will continue to move forward!
