Friendsgiving 2018 | the grahams
I have to be completely transparent. Every few months I make a case to Jackson that we should move. Somewhere with more opportunity for a creative like me, somewhere with more mild winters, somewhere that doesn’t drive my allergies crazy (ahem, Seattle). But what it always comes down to and what always prevents us from leaving is this—our friends and family. The people. You can replace things, but you can’t replace the people.
It has become an annual tradition for Jackson and I and our close friends to get together for a Friends-giving dinner, and this year Jackson and I were hosts. We bought our new home with exactly these kind of events in mind—a home where we could welcome friends and family into a warm, inviting space. I prepared the table and we turned the fake fireplace on our tv on with some music for ambiance. The night was filled with good conversation and laughter over the dishes each couple brought to share, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Jackson and I are both very aware of how lucky we are to have such amazing friends who all live within a short distance of us. Most of the husbands in our little tribe were friends all through middle/high school. We all say that it’s a good thing they had great taste in women because if I do say so myself, they did a fantastic job picking out the ladies to add to our group! These are the people who make this little corner in WNY home. These are the people who keep our lives rich with laughter. These are the people who make us better. We love our friends, and we loved this chance to have them in our home.
